Pregnancy and Women’s Sleep: Understanding the Factors that Contribute to Sleep Health in the Antenatal Period, A Mixed Methods Study

A MyTIME Sleep Sub-Study (MyTIME+Sleep)

Supervisory Committee

Professor Zoe Bradfield, Professor Jeffrey Keelan, Dr Clare Ladyman

Many women report poor quality, short, or interrupted sleep in pregnancy, which is associated with increased risks in pregnancy and birth for women and their babies. Limited perinatal screening for women’s sleep concerns, and low availability or access to effective sleep supports prevents improvements in this aspect of women’s health. Monique’s research aims to explore women’s experiences of sleep in pregnancy, develop a novel, perinatal-specific sleep assessment tool to better measure self-reported sleep in pregnancy, and assess whether melatonin supplementation might support healthy sleep in the final weeks of pregnancy within a clinical trial setting.

She has presented parts of her PhD work at ACM National Conferences in 2024 & 2025, and PSANZ Annual Congress in 2024.
